GET GIRLY

Girly outfits are not usually my type of thing, but I couldn't resist picking up this mustard skirt when I was in Tokyo. Guess I got inspired by all the kawaii dressing in Japan! I also love how this navy blue top works the lace details in without looking overly feminine. To complete the outfit, I added a pair of sleek patent peep toes to make the ensemble look more grown up.

NOT SO NUDE

Dressing up from head to toe in nude shades doesn't mean we have to look dull. In fact, it's one of the easiest way to put together a classy look. Good quality, classic nude pieces are worthy investment items that can last you for years. Look out for details in texture that differentiates it from the rest and complete the look with a simple yet elegant necklace. I also love these nude shoes with spikes which helps to  jazz up and add some edge to the ensemble!

BERRY EASY

If you haven't already noticed, I'm obsessed with bright colored pants. They make a strong statement without you having to try too hard. The idiot proof way to wear a pair of berry colored pants is with black and white pieces. Here, I wore it with a white t-shirt and a black jacket. Not only is it so easy and comfortable, the jacket also keeps the outfit smart enough for work.

DUSTY BLUE TWIRL

While I love a pencil skirt for a sharp office look, it's also nice to sometimes lighten up with a flare piece. This dusty blue skirt has lots of movement and has attracted a number of compliments from my colleagues. I like wearing this with a white silk top and smartening it up with a soft textured black jacket. The overall look is light and airy, but not too casual. I always feel an extra bounce in my steps when I'm wearing this skirt!

BRETON FRIDAY

I can't get enough of Breton stripes. Ever since Coco Chanel featured them in her collection in 1917, Breton stripes have made their way into the hearts of the fashion world and never looked back. I've about 5 Breton tops in an assortment of colors and cuts and I'm still building my collection! This white and navy Breton top from COS is my current favorite. The easiest way to wear this is with black, white and camel, which is oh so classic, you can never go wrong. But to celebrate the end of the work week, I've decided to make it more fun and wore it with a pair of vermillion colored cropped pants. Hang in there ladies, the weekend is almost here!

TO POLISH OR NOT

I've a love hate relationship with nail polish. I started wearing nail polish on a regular basis from university days, and have never stopped since. On one hand, nail polish makes you look, well, more polished. On the other hand, they're so damaging for the nails! It's pretty much a vicious cycle. After the nail polish is removed to reveal those stained flakey nails, I can't wait to put on a fresh coat to cover them up so that they look good again. My poor nails hardly have any time to recover.

To control the damage on my nails, I've been limiting gelish to travels. Also, I've been investing in quality base coats that not only helps to protect my nails from further damage, but to help repair my nails to better condition as I continue to keep my nail polish on (vanity rules!). I've been using Jessica Recovery Base Coat for Brittle Nails for the past few months and have been quite satisfied with the results. Regardless, my quest for the best base coat is still on as I continue to test out others in the market.

A few weeks ago, I popped by Sephora and picked up some OPI liquid sand nail polish. The one I'm wearing now is "What Wizardry is This?" The nail polish dries to a matte, textured finish with antique gold reflects. I like it as a cool alternative to the usual smooth glossy finish. It's easy to apply and gives good coverage. The formula is long wearing and doesn't chip off easily, which is a big plus for me. Just remember to smoothen out the edges after the nail polish has completely dried so that it doesn't feel scratchy. Are you a big fan of nail polish like me? THE 60'S SHIFT

It always helps to have some classic items in your wardrobe that never goes out of style, such as this 60's shift dress. Whenever I'm uninspired and rushing for time, this is one of my frequently go-to pieces. The cut is simple yet flattering, and it goes with anything and everything. Because the dress is all black, I like to have more fun with my accessories. These platform pumps have embossed croc prints on the toe caps and heels, and the velvet material on the sides reflect warm colors of violet, orange and red under different lighting. Complete the look with a pop of orange on the lips and now a black dress outfit is not too simple and plain anymore!
