WRITE ME A LETTER

White tops are one of the most versatile pieces to have - they go pretty much with everything. I like to look for details that are unusual, like this piece I'm wearing from CK. It has a cape-like shape to it, together with an interesting chinese collar. The back is decorated with origami-like folds that reminds one of a letter. With all those details in the top, I finish off the look with a pair of simple berry colored pants to add a pop of color.

WHAT'S UP YOUR SLEEVES

It should be obvious by now that I'm attracted more to simpler styles with interesting details. When I found this blouse on the racks, I was immediately won over by the fur prints on the big lamp shaped sleeves. I was probably doubtful that it will look good on me, as the sleeves are huge and my limbs are really skinny. However, that did not deter me from trying it on and I'm actually quite pleased with how it looks, and it's oh so comfortable too! To balance the oversized top, I wore it with a pair of skinny pants and kept the palette muted so as to keep the focus on the sleeves, but completed the look with these jewel crusted sandals which look dangerous but are in fact super soft and wearable. Perfect for days when you have to run about in humid weather!

90'S REDUX

Helmut Lang came into the limelight in the late 1980's, with his signature minimalist and deconstructed designs. Since we are in the middle of a 90's redux, it can't be more timely to pay tribute to this great designer. No doubt Helmut Lang is no longer at the helm of his own label, I feel that this top does a pretty good job at capturing the Helmut Lang spirit with its asymmetric design and cosmic print. Since Friday is around the corner, why not ditch the serious workwear and indulge in some creative dressing?

ICY COOL FRESH

We haven't had rain in a number of days in Singapore, and coupled with the perpetual high humidity, the weather has become really hot. Although I can't change the weather, I can choose my colors to inject some coolness to my outfit. I've been looking for a crisp white blazer for months, and was lucky to find this in Munich, and on sale! Who cares that summer is over in Europe, I live on the equator and I'm going to wear this white blazer all year round. And these cyan pants, I become more and more in love with them each time I wear them. I hope you like this refreshing combination that I've put together. Stay fresh and cool for the week!

LANTERN GLOW

There's something about Japanese designers. They're almost anti-trend, and because of that, their designs are timeless. Their creations may not always be the most wearable, or the most flattering, but if you are looking for inventive cuts and styles, you won't be disappointed by them. Every time I visit Japan, I will pop by Pleats Please by Issey Miyake. I've noticed that in Japan, the Pleats Please line is usually worn by the more mature ladies. It thus feels slightly awkward to enter a Pleats Please store, but I know that I can almost always find something I like there. Furthermore, Pleats Please is priced at a lower level than the main line, so it's also healthier for my wallet! It's ultimately up to an individual to bring out the beauty of a piece of clothing, don't you think so? I love the vibrant and fiery colors of this Pleats Please top, not to mention the unique cutting that adds an architectural feel to it. The high waisted pants are from Yohji Yamamoto, and in my opinion, quite simply a classic piece.

Last but not least, Happy Mid Autumn Festival!

ROCOCO

I've just came back from a trip in Europe, where I visited 9 different cities in Austria, Croatia, Germany and Slovenia. As with most European holidays, cathedrals and palaces were part of the itinerary. Of the cathedrals and palaces I saw this time, many were built and decorated in Rococo style. The Schönbrunn Palace, where the beautiful Sisi once lived, is one fine example of Rococo architecture. This jacket reminds me of the Rococo style, injected with a splash of tropical summer. My jackets have always ended above the hips, so I was pleasantly surprised to find that I can actually carry off this one which is slightly oversized and longer in length. As they say, you'll never know if you never try! So why not try something new today and give yourself the chance to be pleasantly surprised!

AZTEC SURPRISE

I've never stepped into a H&M store in Singapore until very recently, because I don't like shopping in highly crowded environments most of the time. A couple of weeks back, I met up with an old friend for dinner and we ended up at the Suntec Mall. The newly furbished wing is bright and spacious, and houses a H&M store. But because most people don't know that the wing is already opened, it's very empty. I then took the chance to pop in to H&M and found this affordable aztec print jacket. For it's price, the jacket is very well made and has a nice structure to it. I can wear it with my basic pieces and it will instantly give the outfit a more updated and trendy feel. I'm loving it!

BLOCK THE BLUES AWAY

I really love structural clothes. When I first saw this top on Shopbop, I knew in a second that I want it. I kept it in my shopping cart for awhile without checking out, and it shortly went out of stock! I was devastated and kicking myself for not checking out, but luckily for me, it came back in stock a few weeks later! It is such an easy top to wear and will go so well with all my skinny pants and fitted skirts. This outfit reminds me of the white and blue Greek islands of Mykonos and Santorini in the stunning Aegean Sea. Just throw in a timeless Chanel necklace and leopard print pumps to add a touch of interest to the outfit and I'm ready to go. Perfect for days when I don't fancy being fancy.

WATERCOLOR WRAP

In the final minutes before I had to hop on the very last airport express train that I can possibly take to make it for my flight from Hong Kong back to Singapore, I was desperately browsing through the racks of the Tsumori Chisato store in IFC. I found this lovely silk wrap-around top on the Further Discount rack, of which items are not allowed to be tried on by customers. Despite finding the rule absolutely ridiculous - I just don't see why customers cannot be permitted to try on clothing to see if they fit and look nice on them just because they are on further discounts - I decided to take the risk and purchase it anyway because I really love the colors. Luckily for me, the top fits pretty well. The green and blue strips on the translucent silk top reminds me of the watercolor drawings I used to do when I was a kid. The child-like cutesy prints of Tsumori Chisato's clothing is a lovely break from other serious clothing lines, not to mention the heavy use of cat motifs in her designs. Just in case you are wondering, cats are my favorite animal!
